Today, June 6, Eesti Pank presented the 1-kroon circulation coin which has a new design dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. The new coins are launched on Monday, 9 June.

Eesti Pank issues the newly designed 1-kroon circulation coin to celebrate the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. The coin is legal tender and will be in circulation parallel to the current 1-kroon coin.

"Whereas collector and commemorative coins attract more interest from collectors, the circulation coin will reach the home of every person living in Estonia. I believe the coin bearing the symbol of our republic's anniversary year will be cherished by many," Andres Lipstok, Governor of Eesti Pank said at the press conference.

The new 1-kroon coin is similar to the currently circulating one. This is a copper alloy coin with 23.25 mm diameter, 5.0 gram weight and interrupted mill edge. The reverse of the coin designed by Jaan Meristo depicts the logo of the 90th anniversary of the republic, the text "EESTI VABARIIK" and the nominal value "1 KROON". The obverse bears the national flag of the Republic of Estonia and the year of issue 2008.

The total of 20 million coins were minted by Staatliche Münze Berlin.

Eesti Pank presents the new coin today, June 6, at a fashion, art and music party called PangaÖö. The money-themed event starts at 21.00. For more detailed information about PangaÖö see: http://www.eestipank.ee/sites/default/files/files/Pressiteated/pt0601.jpg
