Eesti Pank's Governor Andres Lipstok is presenting a commemorative plaque on the historic department building of Eesti Pank in Haapsalu (on Karja Street). After the presentation, at 12.30, Governor of Eesti Pank is holding a lecture at the City Government on the new economic forecast of the central bank and the prospects of Estonia's accession to the euro area.

The lecture at the Haapsalu City Government is intended for members of the City Government and the Council, as well as for entrepreneurs.

In May this year, 90 years will have passed from the establishment of Eesti Pank and to celebrate this event Eesti Pank has placed commemorative plaques on its former affiliate offices all over Estonia. The Republic of Estonia was established in 1918 and the central bank was founded in 1919. It began operating On May 3, 90 years ago.

Eesti Pank moved in the brand new Haapsalu building in 1925, since the merchant who had taken a loan a year earlier to build it was unable to repay his debts. In 1931 Eesti Pank bought the house at an auction and purchased also an adjacent plot where they erected an extension. The branch office of the central bank stayed in the house until 1940. After Estonia regained independence the house has served as a commercial bank office and it is currently home to a SEB branch office.

After the foundation of the Republic of Estonia, Eesti Pank had altogether 12 offices and in April and May this year, the members of the Executive Board of Eesti Pank will be opening the commemorative plaques of former department buildings in nine cities: Tartu, Valga, Võru, Viljandi, Paide, Pärnu, Haapsalu, Kuressaare and Rakvere. The Narva office was destroyed in the war and the office in Petseri now remains over the state border. The plaque on Eesti Pank's main building in Tallinn where it is located also today was attached in 2007.
