Today, 10 November, the travelling exhibition "The Estonian Money from the Mark to the Euro" introducing the history of the Estonian money is presented in the building of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The exhibition will be opened by Ambassador of Estonia to the Council of Europe SULEV KANNIKE.

The exhibition provides an overview of the payment means that have circulated in the Republic of Estonia since the creation of the republic. All in all, the central bank introduces four currencies. The Estonian mark celebrated the beginning of our independence and from 1928 to 1940 the Estonian kroon circulated in Estonia. The kroon we use now was put forth in 1992 and the introduction of the euro is still ahead. All the collector coins issued by Eesti Pank in 1992-2008 are also displayed.

"Opening the travelling exhibition in Strasbourg has a tinge of jubilee around it. This is our money exhibition's 50th journey since it was first presented to the public and won the Exhibition Festival of Estonian Museums in 2006. I am very glad the exhibition attracts interest also outside Estonia. We would like to thank the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the Council of Europe and the Ambassador Sulev Kannike who helped organise the exhibition in Strasbourg," said Head of the Museum of Eesti Pank Carmen Greim.

The display is the result of cooperation between Eesti Pank and Ivar Leimus. The exhibition was designed by Tiit Jürna. The exhibition will be open until 19 December 2008.

The exhibition introducing the history of money travelled in Estonia as part of the celebrations d edicated to the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. It was also displayed in Latvia.
