Governor of Eesti Pank Ardo Hansson and staff from Eesti Pank and the Ministry of Finance will attend the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank on 10–12 October in Washington. The main topics of the Annual Meetings will be the world economic outlook, risks to the global economy, and the priorities of the IMF and the World Bank for the next half year.

The IMF meetings will discuss the situation in the global economy and financial markets and the possible next steps for economic policy. Global economic risks have increased, making it necessary to continue decisively to strengthen global economic growth and ensure the resilience of financial systems. Discussions will cover possible political measures for different countries and regions and ways of supporting international cooperation.

The Development Committee of the World Bank will discuss the strategy that was approved last autumn and how the structural changes needed for it can be implemented as sustainably as possible and in a way that supports developing countries.

Estonia will be represented in the Annual Meetings by Governor Ardo Hansson and Deputy Governor Madis Müller from Eesti Pank and by Vice Chancellor of the Ministry of Finance, Märten Ross. Other experts from the central bank and the ministry will also attend the Annual Meetings. During their visit, the Estonian representatives will meet the board of the IMF and representatives of the World Bank and several other international organisations. The main goal of the meetings is to talk about economic developments and policy in Estonia and the euro area.

The full programme for the Annual Meetings can be found on the IMF website.
