Celebrating the 140th anniversary of Juhan Kukk with a special exhibition and meeting

A special exhibition will go on display on 11 April at the Eesti Pank Museum about Juhan Kukk (1885–1942), who was the first Estonian minister of finance, a head of state, and a governor of Eesti Pank. The special exhibition to mark the 140th anniversary of the birth of the statesman will open with speeches.

The Eesti Pank Museum (Estonia pst 11, Tallinn) will open a special exhibition on Friday 11 April at 15:30, dedicated to the life and work of Juhan Kukk, the man who was Minister of Finance when the Estonian mark entered circulation as the first currency of the Republic of Estonia, and was later head of state and governor of Eesti Pank. Juhan Kukk was also one of the authors of the manifesto of Estonian independence.

Speakers at the opening of the special exhibition will be Küllo Arjakas, head of the Tallinn city archive, Karmo Kuri, district elder for Nõmme, Leho Lõhmus, expert on the history of Nõmme, and Viktor Hütt from the Tallinn Rotary Club. The event will last for up to one hour and afterwards a recent publication about Juhan Kukk will be on sale. The special exhibition will be open at the Eesti Pank Museum until 31 May 2025.

Eesti Pank is joining with the Konstantin Päts Museum, the Tallinn Rotary Club and the district administrations of Tallinn and Nõmme to mark the anniversary of the birth of Juhan Kukk. On Sunday 13 April, memorial bouquets will be placed at the cenotaph of the heads of state in Tallinn’s Forest Cemetery in memory of Juhan Kukk, and a memorial bench marking his birthplace will be dedicated in the village of Käru in Väike-Maarja rural municipality, Lääne-Virumaa, with relatives of the statesman in attendance.

The Eesti Pank Museum and museum shop are open as usual on 11 April from 12:00–17:00. Entrance to the museum is free.
