Eesti Pank is announcing a competition to design a collector coin dedicated to Jaan Poska, and one for the Estonian athletes and delegation attending the summer Olympic games in Rio. The competitions will be open to individual designers or to groups.
Next year, 2016, will see the 150th anniversary of the birth of Jaan Poska, the Estonian statesman, and Eesti Pank is issuing a silver collector coin with a nominal value of ten euros to mark the date. The elements that must be included in the design are the national great coat of arms, the words “Eesti Vabariik” and the year 2016 on the obverse side, and the nominal value with the euro symbol (€10) and a full or partial portrait of Jaan Poska on the reverse. The rules for the design competition for the collector coin dedicated to Jaan Poska and the conditions for participation and judging can be found on the Eesti Pank website.
Eesti Pank has a long tradition of issuing collector coins for the Olympics, going back to 1992. The Games of the XXXI Olympiad in 2016 will be held in Rio de Janeiro and Eesti Pank will be issuing a silver collector coin with a nominal value of 10 euros in honour of the Estonian delegation and athletes attending the Olympic games. The elements that must be included in the design are the national great coat of arms, the words “Eesti Vabariik” and the year 2016 on the obverse side, and the nominal value with the euro symbol (€10) and the logo of the Estonian Olympic Committee on the reverse. The design of the coin may not use any symbols that belong to the International Olympic Committee of the organising committee for the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
The deadline for the submission of correctly formatted designs is 18 August 2015 at 12.00. Designs should be brought to Eesti Pank by the deadline or sent to: Mündižürii, Eesti Pank, Estonia pst 13, 15095 Tallinn.
Designers may enter the competition individually or as a group, and may submit more than one design for the coin, and the winners will be announced by the jury invited by Eesti Pank by 11 September 2015 at the latest. Once the coin is released, the winning designer of each coin will receive a prize of 2000 euros
A design competition for a two-euro commemorative coin dedicated to Paul Keres is also running until 18 August.
Eesti Pank is happy to receive suggestion for coins by post or email or through its website. The bank passes all the suggestions it receives to the advisory committee for analysis and expert opinion. The proposals of the advisory committee are used by the management of Eesti Pank when they decide on which commemorative and collector coins to issue.
The committee is chaired by Mart Laar, and its members are Aino Lepik von Wirén, Piret Õunapuu, Ivar Leimus, Raul Rebane, Toomas Kiho and Lauri Vahtre.
