On Monday 7 July, Joachim Nagel, the President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, will deliver a public lecture in Eesti Pank. The lecture will be streamed live. It will focus on the state of the German economy, but will also discuss more generally the resilience of the European economy in the current volatile climate.

The public lecture by Dr. Nagel will be given on 7 July in the Independence Hall of Eesti Pank. It will review the state of the German economy and the structural reforms that will help the country return to a track of economic growth. The President of the German central bank will also share some thoughts on how Europe can cope better with the increased risks to the global economy and geopolitical threats.

The performance of the European economy has a substantial impact on Estonia as a country with a small and open economy. The efforts of Germany, the country with the largest economy in Europe, to solve its economic difficulties can be a useful source of information for the debates in Estonia around competitiveness, productivity and sustainable growth.

Dr. Joachim Nagel is one of the most influential figures in economic and financial policy in Germany. His opinion plays a key role in shaping debates on inflation control, interest rates, and financial stability within the euro area. He has been President of the German Bundesbank since 2022 and is a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. He earlier had various management roles at the German central bank, was a Member of the Executive Board of the German state-owned development bank KfW Group, and Deputy Head of Banking Department at the Bank for International Settlements. He represents Germany in the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements.
