Eesti Pank approved the design for the silver coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Georg Lurich

The Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank declared the design by Riho Luuse as the winner in the design competition for the silver collector coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the legendary wrestler Georg Lurich.
Eesti Pank will issue the silver collector coin with a nominal value of 15 euros dedicated to Georg Lurich in 2026. Georg Lurich (1876–1920) was one of the most famous Estonian wrestlers, and his achievements brought international success and fame. The multi-talented strongman was a cultural ambassador for Estonia and promoted a healthy lifestyle, and he was an inspiration for many.
The design by Riho Luuse uses a portrait of Georg Lurich and figures of wrestlers in bas-relief together with the text “GEORG LURICH”, the years that he lived, and the nominal value of the coin 15€.
Second place went to a design by Kristo Kooskora, and third place to Villu Järmut.
The winning design
Preparations will be made to mint the coin from the winning design from the design competition, and the design may be altered for technical reasons.
The prize for the winner of the design competition is 3000 euros, with the second placed design receiving 2000 euros, and the third placed 1000 euros.

Eesti Pank is happy to receive suggestions for collector coins and two-euro commemorative coins to be issued through the bank’s website. Suggestions are sent to an advisory committee that provides expert opinions for Eesti Pank, and its opinions are used by the management of Eesti Pank when they decide on which commemorative and collector coins to issue.
