The Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank approved the design by Kerli Tamjärv as the winner in the design competition for the two-euro commemorative coin dedicated to veterans of the Estonian Defence Forces.

Eesti Pank is issuing the commemorative coin with a special design for the veterans of the Estonian Defence Forces to recognise and honour those who have served the Estonian state and contributed to its security. This will be the third in the series of coins dedicated to Resistance that started in 2025 with a silver collector coin dedicated to the Finnish Boys. The second coin in the series is dedicated to the Forest Brothers and will be issued in autumn 2026.

The idea behind the series of coins dedicated to Resistance is to recognise activities and groups that in one way or another helped resist the occupation of Estonia and stood up for an independent and free Estonia.

One million of the two-euro circulating coins dedicated to the veterans of the Estonian Defence Forces will be minted and they will enter circulation through shops. The coin will be valid as legal tender throughout the euro area and will be issued in 2027.

Second place in the design competition went to Moonika Mällo and third to Tiiu Pirsko and Mati Veermets.

Preparations will be made to mint the coin from the winning design from the design competition, though the design may be altered for technical reasons.

The prize for the winner of the design competition is 3000 euros, with the second placed design receiving 2000 euros, and the third placed 1000.
