Eesti Pank has announced competitions to design a silver collector coin dedicated to the Estonian farming couple and a two-euro commemorative coin for the Estonian national bird, the barn swallow. Designs can be submitted for the competition until 12.00 noon on 23 March. The coins will be issued in 2023.

The rules for the competitions to design the coins proposed by the advisory committee operating at Eesti Pank can be found on the Eesti Pank website.

  1. Silver collector coin dedicated to the Estonian farming couple
  2. Two-euro commemorative coin for the Estonian national bird, the barn swallow

Both individuals and groups of designers are welcome to participate in the design competitions, and designers may submit multiple designs to each competition. Designs for both competitions should be sent to Eesti Pank by 12.00 noon on 23 March 2022 at the latest.

The prize for the winner of each design competition is 1500 euros, with the second placed design receiving 1000 euros, and the third placed 700. The results of the competition will be announced by 15 June 2022 at the latest.

Suggestions for minting collector and commemorative coins are welcome from everyone, and can be sent through the Eesti Pank website, by email or by post. Suggestions for coins to be minted in 2024 can be sent until 15 August this year. All the suggestions are considered by an advisory committee invited by Eesti Pank, and their expert opinions and recommendations are used as the basis for the Executive Board of Eesti Pank to decide which coins to mint.

Eesti Pank commemorates historical events on the coins, and also themes that are alive and relevant for us today, like the Estonian national bird, the barn swallow. Such coins were also issued in 2021, with two-euro coins with special designs dedicated to the Finno-Ugric peoples and to the Estonian national animal, the wolf. Coins with these special designs are called commemorative coins, and they give tribute and remember events, people and themes that are important for Estonia and Europe.
