Eesti Pank has approved the designs of the coins that will be issued in 2023

The Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank approved the design by Kaupo Kangro for the two-euro circulation coin with a special design dedicated to the national bird, the swallow, and the design by Riho Luuse for the silver collector coin dedicated to the Estonian farming couple.
In early 2023 Eesti Pank will issue into circulation a two-euro coin with a special design dedicated to the Estonian national bird, the swallow, and will also issue a silver collector coin for the Estonian farming couple.
The Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank approved the design by Kaupo Kangro, which was chosen as the winning design by the panel invited by the central bank for the design competition for the two-euro coin dedicated to the national bird, the swallow. Second place in the competition went to a design by Riho Luuse, and third place went to Maria Meose. In total 22 designs were submitted for the competition for the commemorative coin.
The design competition for the collector coin dedicated to the Estonian farming couple was won by a design by Riho Luuse.
Second place in the design competition went to Heino Prunsvelt, and third to Mariangela Crisciotti. In total 11 designs were submitted for the competition.
The prize for the winner of each design competition is 1500 euros, with the second placed design receiving 1000 euros, and the third placed 700.
Preparations will be made to mint the coin from the winning design from the design competition, and for technical reasons the design may be changed. Eesti Pank will publish the final appearance of the coin before it is issued.
The winning designers
Kaupo Kangro's main job is in architectural design, but he also works on the side as a designer and has entered coin design competitions at Eesti Pank before.
Riho Luuse has won several design competitions held by the central bank for collector coins and commemorative coins. His most recently minted design was for the two-euro coin issued by Eesti Pank to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Society of Estonian Literati, which entered circulation in March this year. He also designed the two-euro commemorative coin for the centenary of the birth of Paul Keres in 2016 and the gold and silver collector coins dedicated to Hanseatic Tallinn in 2017.

Suggestions are sent to an advisory committee that provides expert opinions for Eesti Pank, and its proposals are used by the management of Eesti Pank when they decide on which commemorative and collector coins to issue.
