The Eesti Pank research award for 2017 has gone to Kerli Lille for her research into how capital controls affect the transmission of global economic shocks to local markets. The research award is for 1300 euros.

The paper that won the award, The Role of Capital Controls in Mediating Global Shocks, researches how far the capital controls that have provoked a great discussion in terms of financial stability affect the transmission of global economic shocks to local markets. The analysis uses data from 89 countries from the years 1995-2013.

Kerli Lille received her Master’s in economics from the University of Tartu in summer 2017.

The Eesti Pank research award in memory of Urmas Sepp is being granted this year for the 15th time. The research competition is designed to promote research in economics, recognise outstanding research work and enhance studies for academic degrees. Urmas Sepp (1956–2002) was the head of the Eesti Pank macroeconomics department, later the economic research department, from 1993.
