The Eesti Pank Executive Board confirmed the programme of issuing collector and commemorative coins for 2018 and 2019. It foresees Eesti Pank issuing ten new collector and commemorative coins in the coming years.

Several of these coins will be connected to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. “As the anniversary of Estonia is a very important event for our country and our people, we are making a big contribution as the central bank to marking this with collector and commemorative coins. We are issuing more coins than usual, and we hope that the two-euro coin with the special design for the anniversary will reach many people and will be a souvenir of this important day for our state”, said Ardo Hansson, Governor of Eesti Pank.

Eesti Pank will issue four coins in 2018 to mark the anniversary of the republic. There will be a two-euro commemorative coin issued jointly by the Baltic states and a similar coin dedicated to the centenary of the Republic of Estonia, and a silver collector coin and a gold one. Two further silver collector coins will be issued next year, one for the Estonian delegation to the winter Olympics, and the other for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Jaan Tõnisson.

In 2019 Eesti Pank will issue four coins. There will be two-euro commemorative coins for the 150th anniversary of the first song festival and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first Estonian language university in Tartu, a silver collector coin for the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Voldemar Jannsen, and the second coin in the series dedicated to the Hanseatic towns, a silver collector coin for Hanseatic Viljandi.

The technical details for the coins, with the nominal value, size and weight of collector coins, and the mintage and issue date are published by Eesti Pank well before the coins are released.

Suggestions for minting collector and commemorative are welcome from everyone, and can be sent through the Eesti Pank website, by email or by post. Suggestions for coins to be minted in 2020 can be sent until the end of August this year. All the suggestions are considered by an advisory committee invited by Eesti Pank, and their expert opinions and recommendations are used as the basis for the Executive Board of Eesti Pank to decide which coins to mint.
