Eesti Pank is today issuing two million of the two-euro coins with a special design dedicated to Ukraine and Freedom into circulation through banks and retail outlets. The coin can also be bought for charitable purposes as a commemorative product on a coin card, as the proceeds from the sales of the coin cards will go to support the Ukrainian fight for freedom.

“The two-euro coin dedicated to Ukraine will from today start to reach people throughout Estonia and elsewhere in Europe through shops. This coin reminds people that freedom is the highest value and it comes at a very high price. Ukraine is currently fighting a war at the cost of the lives of its own people for the shared values of the European cultural space, and it is up to us to keep supporting them in this”, said Eesti Pank Governor Madis Müller. He added that Eesti Pank had decided very quickly to issue the two-euro coin dedicated to Ukraine and Freedom and to mint it this year primarily to provide financial support for the Ukrainian central bank so that they would be able to direct their own assistance where it was most needed. “We would like to thank all those who have made a contribution by buying the coin card that was released in the summer. Supporters have come from around the world, and the first donation of 350,000 euros to Ukraine has already been made. There will certainly be more to come, as the sales for charity continue”, he said.

Eesti Pank put 40,000 coin cards with a two-euro coin in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) finish on sale in July to raise funds for Ukraine. There are still 9000 of the coin cards available to purchase, and the revenues from the sale of them will be given to the Ukrainian central bank. The coin folder is priced at 18 euros and can be bought from the Eesti Pank Museum shop and the Omniva online store. The coin card was designed by Vladimir Taiger, who was also an advisor for the design of the coin.

The two-euro coin for Ukraine and Freedom features the words Slava Ukraini and shows a girl as a symbol of tenderness, protecting a bird in her hand. The design also features an ear of wheat. The coin was designed by a young refugee from Kharkiv, Daria Titova, who is studying at the Estonian Academy of Arts. A total of 2,000,000 of the coins have been minted by the Mint of Finland.

It will now be possible to receive the two-euro coins with the special design as change from shops, but they can also be bought individually or in roles of 25 coins from the Eesti Pank Museum shop and the Omniva online store.
