Visiting researcher programme

Eesti Pank (the Bank of Estonia) invites applications for visiting researcher positions in its Research Division in 2027. The Division conducts applied research in economics and finance, with a particular focus on monetary economics and financial stability. The positions are intended for researchers with an academic or central banking background. PhD students expecting to complete their degree within a year are also encouraged to apply.

Job description:

Visiting researchers are expected to undertake research projects that align with the general research interests of Eesti Pank. Preference is given to projects that relate to the current research agenda of the Research Division or offer opportunities for collaboration with economists in the Division.

Research projects will be agreed upon in advance. Visiting researchers are expected to present their work at Eesti Pank seminars and actively participate in internal research discussions. They will receive compensation in accordance with Eesti Pank’s remuneration system.

Applicants should have a proven research record and strong written and oral communication skills in English. They should hold a PhD in Economics or Finance. Final-year PhD students are also encouraged to apply.

Visiting researcher appointments typically last between two and four months. The duration of the stay is flexible but should be sufficient to allow for the successful completion of the agreed research project.

Preferred research topics:

Proposals in all areas of economics relevant to central banks will be considered, but priority will be given to research projects on the following topics:

  • Monetary economics
  • Financial stability
  • Household financial behaviour
  • Real estate economics

Working in the Research Division of Eesti Pank gives applicants the opportunity to:

Application documents

Applications should be submitted in English and should include:

  • A cover letter indicating the preferred starting date and duration of the research project
  • A research proposal including:
    • The research topic and main research question(s);
    • A brief literature review;
    • A description of the research methodology and the data to be used
  • The applicant’s CV
  • A letter of recommendation (required only for PhD candidates and recent PhD graduates)
  • A sample research paper, if available
